Backstory
In his past life, Ulisse grew up in italy in a family of housekeepers and service workers. His father and those before him had been known for a few generations as excellant butlers and right hand men. That reputation made Ulisse's family guaranteed to become employed under wealthy families. Going along with it if it meant living in a nice home, Ulisse was content with becoming a servant.
While he learned watching his father work, he was also acquainted with and mentored by the wealthy families he'd meet. At one point, he'd come to apprentice under the Lithe family, meeting their only son Cellini who was the same age as Ulisse. With their closeness, the family figured it'd be fine to assign Ulisse to be at their son's side throughout life. Despite differences in their upbringings and roles, the two got along so well. And so Ulisse grew with him, watched Cellini raise a daughter, and frankly they all coexisted similar to that of a family. And yet, with all seeming to go well, Ulisse and the Lithe's were caught in the opening of a large sinkhole one day that swallowed up a part of Italy.
Ulisse had always been struck with bad luck from the beginning, his own appearance in Alcarres being in the middle of a drug cartel dispute. By the time he had settled in to the red tinted town, Ulisse had become a bartender and tavern owner, finding comfort in talking to the townspeople and wanderlust tourists. Although the majority of his bad luck affected only him, one Camminatori Notturni incident, a massacre at his tavern, led Ulisse to fear his misfortune to a deeper extent.
If Ulisse had a sour relationship with anyone in particular, it'd be the town's known con man, Ambrosi. He'd find ways to drive others out of establishments and purchase the property at a cheap price, only to sell it for higher. He had his eyes on Ulisse's tavern, and the only way things would go Ambrosi's way was by kicking out Ulisse himself. He'd used the town's Camminatori Notturni to frame Ulisse for a murder as the only survivor. Seeing that as his greatest defeat against his bad luck, Ulisse lost hope in defending himself until Emii Ciriaco happened to take his case and prove his innocence.
Once again taken in by the Lithe family as his case was being solved, Ulisse assisted in the investigation however he could all while growing close to the family. Compared to him, Cellini lithe seemed to have wonderful luck, and since they'd met, it's as if bad things no longer persisted. When Ambrosi was ultimately caught, Ulisse decided it'd be for the best to stay with the Lithe's and mutually care for one another.
He watched Nava and Cellini become closer as a daughter and father, and with time he'd become charmed by Cellini enough that they acted more like a married couple than a servant and master. Given that he'd been mourning the passing of his tavern regulars, Ulisse truly wasn't expected to work or do much, but keeping busy is just the way he was. Grateful for Emii's help, he'd he happy to see her again should one visit the other's town.
