Backstory
Previously, Aemilius was a human girl in the modern world living within the cypress countrysides of Tuscany, Italy. Once Surrounded by family, those tranquil days would be forgotten when her parents were slain during a break in, marking young Emii the only survivor after a failed strangulation attempt. Since then, her uncle Ammon moved in to raise her during her recovery, becoming a new “father” to her. While it didn’t evoke any strong emotions, she trusted his words enough to believe her parents loved her and wished her the best, even if the near death experience left her unable to remember the majority of her past before that fateful night. Growing up, Ammon was the family she had attachments to, apart from Faris Ciríaco and his mother Agnese. The Ciríaco’s were a family dependent on a military father that was away on duty, friends of Ammon’s that chose to live with Emii to share more company. There was nothing romantic between the adults, simply friends, but if the two children could grow up as siblings it would take any feelings of loneliness in what they lacked.
There came a day where a political event was occurring in town, one to celebrate the achievements of the local diplomat Capella Volpicelli, something Emii didn’t pay much mind to. She was a kid who wandered from her family’s side to explore the town she rarely visited, many ending up in the same spot when a sinkhole began to open up suddenly. Swallowed up by the earth, Emii figured it’d be the end of her life, but there was continuity within the afterlife, within the Vermillion World. With no recollection of her life once more, Emii awoke in the barn of the Ciríaco home, accepted into their family once again. No one seemed to recall their pasts here, not their deaths that led them to the world where rain was red, where blue and its combinations did not exist. Emii did notice the missing color though, finding a blue gem inside of a locket when she first appeared, tucked away in the hay beside her. Whether or not it had a significance, she decided not to tell others about it for now.
In this new world, Aemilius seemed to be the latest person to appear, a new face that had a lot of learning and normalizing to do. There were inhabitants that were simple and “human”, yet others deemed “Gifted” because they had abilities or unusual features. Emii was one herself, noticing that she needed to secure her head or it would fall off like a dullahan, but otherwise she could pass off as a regular human. Such an unsightly ability, she hated seeing it herself. Even so, the impression she gave others since the start was a curious one, that she was a deadpanned child known for wearing long bows and nightgowns. She didn’t consider herself much for conversation if she was learning her surroundings, but the day she met Emigdio she felt the days pass as quick as the rain would fall. A crow larger than herself appeared shortly after her arrival, seemingly after the locket she carried, but she didn’t want to hand something so important over. Running into the local gondolier in town, Emigdio, Emii relied on his help that night to outwit the crow. While he didn’t know the reason she was chased, he offered her his hand regardless, happy to be of some help, and to meet a new face around his age.
That attack resulted in her bedroom window being broken, so Emii decided she should look towards a job to pay for repairs. Her adoptive mother Agnese could’ve paid for it herself, but didn’t meddle if Emii insisted on making up for damages she felt responsible for. Emigdio was searching too, growing unfulfilled with his gondolier work, so he was glad to look with Emii. Bumping into the Vilppu Twins, children of the town’s detectives, Cherry Vilppu was especially enthralled at the idea of having two disciples. Her brother Rodel was hesitant with reason; the twins weren’t officially detectives like their fathers Abel & Arturo, and their fathers absolutely would not permit them to do such dangerous work if not basic tailing and searching for lost items. So when the detectives came home, Rodel was right, until a young boy arrived asking for help with a ghost. Perhaps the child didn’t seem reliable enough, so Arturo asked Emii & Emigdio to help him and see if they can really find a ghost. If they can solve this mystery, then they would consider allowing the children to become detectives.
The case was closed with some bumps in the road, Emii & Emigdio officially becoming detectives alongside Cherry & Rodel. Chemistry was slow to build when working as a team, but each case that came forth brought them all closer. Emii didn’t expect much at the beginning, yet being roped into cases involving murder and heinous crimes became something she often looked back on. There were so many clients she could save, yet just as many that were lost. Overall, she reminded herself she could only do what she could do, and each case had its closure whether good or bad. That was her role, to find the justice after damage had begun, feeling confident enough with time that it was what she was best at. Still, their world was mysterious as is with things that don’t make sense even now. Piecing those mysteries together would be the greatest case of them all, a task others have seem to have hinted and begun, such as Capella. Those like her know of the scattered blue gems, maybe what they imply of the world, to look for things that are missing for everyone. It makes Emii uneasy to think of the verdict just like her usual cases go, because it could be the panacea to those around her, or the worst case scenario that affects those she loves. Ignorance can be feigned for the remainder of her time if she wills it, but there must be a reason as to why she’s the last person to appear, why her head is detached, why the color blue brings both comfort and fear when she gazes upon it.
