Character Overview

About
Rie is a young girl working as a mailbird alongside Giacomo, busiest when deliveries need to be made in the wintertime. Energetic and easygoing, she has no difficulty in her work and speaking to clients if it means lots of traveling. In the future, traveling is all she really wants to do.

Personality
She's a very eager and friendly person, definitely giving the impression of a best friend that wants you involved in everything they do. She jokes often, is a good listener, and is always up to doing favors for others when prompted. She tries to find humor in everything around her, and even when she's stressed as a way to lighten up the mood. She'll laugh at a rude comment rather than bothering to fight against it, or laugh awkwardly when she's dejected. She brushes off the occasional worry than sulking, a good/bad thing really. Her energy might be too much for introverts because she'll get into things without a second thought. She can be troublesome in that she will push past her limits as well, working on something even while sick. Rie is the worst with birthdays to the point of forgetting hers, but that always makes a surprise party all the more surprising!

Likes: Big headphones, Salmon, Denim, Fall/Winter, Beach trips
Dislikes: Summer heat, Calamari, Lateness, Piling work, storms

Character Lore

Backstory
Rie grew up in a simple but sweet family that made sure she always retained her bright outlook on life. Even if harsh things came her way, even if she tripped and fell or hurt herself, she'd smile through it because she was mostly okay. She never really had anything serious occur where she knew she couldn't smile through, and had a decent upbringing with a number of family and friends around mutually supporting her. However, when she did finish middle school, her father had a work injury bad enough that he wasn't going to be able to work properly in the future. She tried to lift his spirits by simply staying as she was, smiling, but that might've been the most stressed she'd ever been. She didn't show it to her family, but her friends at least knew of the circumstances. Her best friend Giacomo, a couple years older than her, said if she ever wanted to work in his family's postal business, they'd welcome her with open arms anytime. Financially, she was fine, but she still wanted to be prepared for the future in case anything ever happened to her mother or father moving forward. Determined, she started working around the age of 16.

When she started, she learned to sort mail and figure out what goes where. She was eager to learn, knowing that if she stumbled she'd get it eventually, and she certainly did. As she got older like Giacomo, she accompanied him as he delivered mail to their town. It never felt like work to her if she spent most of the time talking to a friend, someone like a brother to her, so each work day went by quickly. Her work even allowed her to meet new faces and become acquainted with those around their town. Older people especially warmed up to her, finding her energy pretty refreshing. As for people closer to her age, she did get along decently with them, even asking some of her friend from school to join her at work during the summer. Galene took up the offer, but she did more of the sorting and indoor tasks than going out and getting lost in neighborhoods she didn't know. Rie was so used to it by now that she knew exactly what the homes looked like without reading the numbers, even recognizing some of the inhabitants.

Acclimated to her work, Rie prefers to work year round, unphased by weather conditions in the winter as well. She doesn't think it'll be the work she sticks to as an adult, still intending to attend college and do greater things in the future, preferably something where she gets the time to do some traveling. Giacomo is the same, a lifelong inhabitant of their town that wants to see what else is under the same sky, so there's been countless conversations to take trips in the future together at the very least.

Character Relationships

Giacomo
"Let me drive the car just once! No, I don't have my license yet, but I've been learning! Huuuuh Why not~??"
Two longtime friends since they were both small children, Giacomo always older and wiser enough that Rie sees him as a big brother practically. They're very amicable and their similar speech patterns rub off enough that people think they just might be related. Rie is like the rowdy little sibling that could end up endangering herself, while Giacomo often has to reiterate that some things are not possible, or safe.

Galene
"I'd say you're definitely getting better at reading! Well yeah, there's some letters out of place but that happens to me too. Don't worry, just keep it up!!!"
Two friends since childhood as well, the same age and often in the same classes by chance. Rie is a helpful and considerate friend to Galene, honest with her for the sake of helping her get better at things she overlooks, but it's appreciated. Rie helps her order tickets online, and Galene insists to take her on rock concerts with her. Rie isn't sure if her ears will be okay after something very loud though.

Urtė
"Hey, hey, did you hear what I said? Oh, did you go to a concert with Galene... Oh no..."
Urtė is Rie's senior in school, but there's still some mixed-grade classes they share, leading to them meeting. Urtė tends to be spacey sometimes but she means well and knows what she's doing most of the time. Occasionally she holds onto Rie's arm and later says she felt dizzy, but doesn't say things in the moment when she should, to Rie's worry.

Character Design

Design Notes

- 5'3 in height, wears mary janes and a mailman/pelican themed outfit.

- The yellow on her head is hair, not a bow. Underside of hair is a bright blue.

- Probably based on an emperor penguin. She's as loud as one.
