Backstory
Remi was originally born in another Russian town, living with his demon parents for a few years. It was early into the country's civil wars but it took years to reach his town, leading to his parents staying behind to participate as their children fled to a sanctuary town. He was only 7 when he travelled to another part of Russia by himself, carrying his baby sister with him to Reuya, never again seeing his parents.
In Reuya, being an outlier in age compared to the other orphans, Remi had somewhat of a reserved personality because he was one of the only ones aware of his world’s circumstances upon him. Snezhana was an orphan when she began caring for all the children herself, not even an adult when her family/the orphanage’s adults died in war, so Remi relied on her a lot. Seeing how tough she was despite everything, he admired her greatly. Snezhana became more of a sisterly figure to him, and as for a fatherly figure, Remi looked upon Coquelicotta Mak’s father.
Mr.Mak was a doctor who occasionally visited Reuya, doing checkups on all the children and sending his daughter whenever he was busy. All the demon children adored him, and Remi spent the most time being checked up on by Mr.Mak due to his sickly nature. Seldom did Mr.Mak visit and see Remi without a cold or who knows what, so they tended to joke about it often. The doctor was humorous and generous, and felt the busy and bustling atmosphere of the orphanage didn’t help Remi recover; if he tried to sleep early, the little ones would jump on the beds, for example. So in the end, Mr.Mak let Remi and Audette move into his typically uninhabited home in Reuya, figuring two children would liven up the place while he travels. With a couple of medicinal books and a low maintenance herb garden, Remi loved his new home with Audette.
Living together with Audette, the pair still go their own ways in their daily lives, and Remi doesn't consider himself that lonely since he's often occupied with his interests. While he doesn't always go out, he still studies at home diligently, and he's glad Audette is out and about enjoying her time as well.
His sister isn't difficult to watch over; the town is considered safe and collectively cares for all of the kids, Remi included. Even so, when Angels are stationed for safety reasons, Remi recalls being discontent about the situation. He can't always be by his sister's side, so he feared for her safety whether she meets Baba Yaga or if she runs into any of the angels. When she becomes friendly with them, he's initially against meeting them, but learns they're more fair than expected, and in the end they are also around for the safety of the townspeople. With them, he feels a bit more relieved about his sister going out.
In general, Reuya doesn't consist of only longtime inhabitants. With the good reputation of Snezhana's orphanage, there's always someone new every once in a while. Lacra and Mircea are two new demons to the town, and rather than living in the orphanage with many other kids, Remi allows them to live with him and Audette moving forward.
Mircea is a very quiet child, while Lacra is more mature and outspoken. Neither is the type of person Remi is used to, complete opposites of his sister as well, but they quickly become friends regardless. With differences, he knows theres so much to learn from one another, and things to help the other grow in. These days when Audette goes out to play or see the angels, Remi notices their home is a little bit louder than usual, some rooms feel more lived in, and it's as if their "family" is growing. As they all look out for one another and grow their own way, Remi is glad to be a part of their current lives, and hopes that with all the rumors going on, that they can continue to have peaceful days.
