Backstory
As the second oldest mandrake in her large family, Niemi always had a sense of responsibility alongside her curiosity of a younger sibling. Since she was small, she’d had a habit of daydreaming, often climbing up trees in the underground garden to let herself be swayed by her fantasies. She’d imagine herself as a princess, as the elegant ladies she’d see in Grandfather’s family’s albums. She’d seen pictures of Elodie before in the albums, younger but supposedly older than her, wondering what kind of person she had become into her adulthood.
Grandfather said they were very much alike in that they were gentle people, so she would be happy at her side in the future when he’d pass away. When he did, Niemi spent her time mourning him with her mind recalling their memories, but was able to cope well by busying herself with raising her new siblings, and through Neroli’s support. And so, by the time that Elodie took over her grandfather’s home, the two finally met and Niemi’s life turned for the better further.
When Elodie's grandfather passed away, to Niemi it really did feel like losing her own parent. Still, she was confident that once she'd meet Elodie, she would treat her like family considering they would all be grieving and picking up where he left off.
After meeting Elodie, she was quick to latch onto her due to the similarities to her grandfather, warming up faster than some of the mandrakes. At first she considered her as more of a friend, but with how often Elodie dotes on her as much as the others, she becomes more of a motherly figure towards Niemi. She understood there were many mandrakes that Elodie would be watching over, with new ones sprouting even, so when everything was new for everyone Niemi still did her part to alleviate some of the work. Once all settled down, with Taimi and Milne around now, Niemi can't deny each day is always wonderfully busy.
She continues to spend a lot of time daydreaming, considered a bit spacey by those around her, but when she’s not thinking she’s very attentive to other’s needs and makes good company. Elodie and Neroli appreciate her ability to be calm at all times, even when it becomes hectic with all of the children around. Her demeanor is also occasionally compared to that of a calm, meditating old man, but for the most part her ladylike appearance stands out the most.
And so these days she’s helping out at the florist shop, still habitually climbing trees, with her mind up in the clouds. As her siblings become older, she’s excited to see their lives unfold, and is especially curious about her only brother, Milne, and what kind of child he will be.
