Backstory
When her eyes opened for the first time, Elodie’s grandfather was the first person she met, her creator who treated her like family. She shared part of the Illes family’s DNA, another portion with the blanket flower, a plant with a fairly short germination time. Being his first successful Mandrake, Neroli had the shortest childhood of her successors, growing up in the blink of an eye past the human age of 5 within a few months. Needless to say, stored baby clothes for her weren’t tossed away despite everything, as she was going to have siblings eventually.
Her first little sister was Niemi, another child who could only be held briefly before she was already able to prance and skip around. The two played around their “Grandfather’s” home during the day, becoming the two mandrakes most familiar with him, and staying underground in a hidden garden during afternoons. It’s said that Neroli is a young lady with a personality that takes after an old man, whether through her mature manner of speech or her habits of reading the morning paper with a cup of black coffee since she was younger.
When Grandfather announced he was terminally ill, that one day he wouldn’t unlock their hidden basement garden to let them out, they at least would one day meet his granddaughter who’d he’d entrust their care to. Likewise, he asked Neroli to take care of Elodie as well. From stories alone, she was someone special that Neroli wanted to meet one day, waiting a couple months in the hidden garden after Grandfather’s passing before she had finally met her. Within those months, a handful of her siblings had sprouted, essentially born with longer childhoods as the Mandrake research polished with time.
While Neroli and most of her siblings shared a majority of Grandfather’s DNA, the last two mandrakes shared Elodie’s DNA gathered from a childhood hairbrush. As if sensing she had come to her childhood home again, that’s when Taimi decided to sprout, Kuiper following suit shortly. As for Neroli, a new life of raising her siblings and managing the florist’s shop with Elodie began.
It’s believed that Neroli fills in the shoes of her late Grandfather with her parent-like personality, responsible and careful in what she does. While the mandrakes were intended to be hidden from the public, Neroli spends most of her time at the front of the home where Elodie continues to run the family’s florist shop. Many had seen Elodie move in, but the mandrakes seemed to have appeared suddenly in contrast, yet Neroli has a quick answer whenever asks who they are.
Knowing Elodie’s past full of grievances, and that the mandrakes are loved like they are her own children, Neroli would like to see Elodie’s life blossom into one full of love. Even if sometimes she’ll be strict with her siblings, even if she doesn’t fully comprehend the ordeals her family had gone through, as the eldest daughter Neroli ultimately takes care of everyone around her.
